Wills & Legacies
We welcome all sorts of donations left to us in Wills. Any amount you leave can help us. It’s completely up to you what kind of gift you choose to leave us, but one of the most effective gifts you can make is a residuary gift.
Residuary Gift
A residuary gift is a share of the residue of your estate. This is what’s left after family and friends have been provided for in accordance with your wishes. This is a helpful and straightforward way to leave a legacy, as unlike most other donations in Wills; its value will not be affected by inflation.
Pecuniary gift
A pecuniary gift is a stated sum of money. You can choose exactly how much you wish to leave by giving in this way.
Specific gift
Some people choose to leave us a valuable item, such as jewellery or property. You can outline in your Will whether these items may be sold, and whether we can use the proceeds in accordance with your wishes. We understand that personal belongings are very special, and we advise you to get in touch with us if you would like to give in this way so we can discuss your intentions.
Wording
Whichever type of gift you choose to make in your Will, you’ll find some useful suggested wording below. Your solicitor will also be able to help.

I give free of inheritance tax X% of my residuary estate and the income thereof to, Cancer Relief UK, Registered Charity Number 1122929, for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.
For a pecuniary gift:
I give free of inheritance tax £X to, Cancer Relief UK, Registered Charity Number 1122929, for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.
