A great day was had by all at the Inaugral Cancer Relief UK charity golf day at Shirland Golf Club. The weather eventually allowed us to tee off albeit slightly late.
The course played extremely well considering the amount of rain that had fallen, indeed upon our arrival most of the greens were flooded. I was assured by the Head Greenkeeper that given an hour without rain that the greens would drain well and we would be ok to go, sure enough after some spiking we got underway.
The competition was a four ball better ball am am format, with medals for the first 2 teams as well as a trophy for the longest drive and nearest pin.
Winners overall were the team from Chesterfield Golf Club ‘Pip’s Pirates’ with an astonishing team score of 94 points. Second were ‘ Us Four ‘ from Matlock with 84 points.
Longest drive went to Mark Evans, and nearest the pin prize went to Joe Banks.
Everyone enjoyed the day and we hope to be there again next year bigger and better. Cancer Relief UK would like to thank the staff at Shirland Golf Club for their assistance with this event. A special mention for the PGA professional at Shirland Craig Swinburn who was a great help.
