Snooker with the stars.. “A big thank you to all our supporters”

Snooker with the Stars "A big thank you to all supporters"

We just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who attended and supported our recent “Snooker with the stars” event and helping us to raise funds and awareness for our charity.

The event went ahead on Tuesday 3rd May at Matlock Golf Club, who hosted our event. Attendees watched frames played by Ken Doherty, while John Virgo gave a very amusing running commentary with funny stories and anecdotes.

A raffle was held, which consisted of a year’s free membership to Chesterfield Snooker Club donated by Sean Lennon, a signed cue ball by Ronnie Sullivan, tickets to 7 times world champion Steven Hendrie exhibition, a Ronnie O’Sullivan signed cue ball, a cue and case signed by both John and Ken and a meal for two with wine donated by The New Bath Hotel.

We also held an auction for a signed program from the recent World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theatre Sheffield, signed by 7 world champions.

Everyone had a fantastic night, feedback has been extremely good, and Steve from Cancer Relief UK said that is something that they will try again in the future.

Our next fundraiser is on the 19th May and is a Golf Day, again held at Matlock Golf Club; we are still looking for teams to come along and join in the day, so why not get a team together and some along and join us

Vacancies available to Cornish respite venue

Well, the Christmas holiday season is now well and truly over, but it’s still possible to get away from it all.  With that in mind, we wanted to give you a little reminder that we have fully funded vacancies (to cancer sufferers and family members) for our respite holiday home. The Holiday Home is available to families for a break from the normal day to day routine of illness.

It’s based in Cornwall, just 6 miles from Newquay, in the peaceful Atlantic Reach Holiday Village.  Located in the rolling countryside and close to sandy beaches, this two bedroom villa with it’s own balcony is the perfect spot to take a well deserved break.

The holiday village is fully contained with cafe’s, bars and restaurants, a leisure club with spa and large indoor and outdoor pools, as well as some great evening entertainment, all on site.

While you are not out and about during the day, there is lots to do, with a fantastic kids club to keep the little ones entertained, adults could take advantage of a little ‘me’ time with a little relaxation in the spa.  With a gentle swim or a lively workout in the fully equipped gym. The spa has it’s very own hydrotherapy pool and jacuzzi.

The large indoor and outdoor pools cater for children of all ages, so it could be a family affair.  There is also ‘Pirate Pete’s’ soft play centre for children aged 5 – 12 years.  Also there is a dedicated toddler area for the under 5’s, so all the family can play and have quality time together.

Perhaps mum would prefer a Thai inspired treat in the spa. Perhaps dad would enjoy a round of golf. The choice is yours! Remember the accommodation is paid for by us at Cancer Relief UK.

Your can check out of the holiday village at www.atlanticreach.co.uk and then call us to check availability and book on 01246 852233.respite2

Visit to Chesterfield Royal Hospital

royalOn Monday 14th, our very own Steve and Phil headed over to the Chesterfield Royal Hospital to hand out Xbox consoles and games.
They were welcomed by Jenny (in red above) and her colleagues, who will ensure they give enjoyment to the children who have to stay over in hospital over a period of time, and especially during the festive period.

Raising awareness at Chesterfield College

collegeWe would like to say a massive thank you to the lovely Georgie Abrams, staff and students at Chesterfield College, who took part in raising awareness of what we do, to help people who are affected by cancer.  As well as building awareness, they held a stall to raise funds.  The stall looked fantastic.

Georgie said “I really enjoyed taking part and can’t wait to do something like it again”.

Do you have an idea for building awareness? Or do you have a few hours to spare and would you like to get involved by volunteering for us?  Give us a call on 01246 852233.
